No Such Thing As An Odd Couple

Couples come in all shapes and sizes.  They always have, since the beginning of time.

Life is short, and often cruel.  Finding true love, or even a true friend is not just a comfort.

It’s a miracle.

But I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. True love happens.

It is easy to recognize when you see it.

Love…

..in all its many forms…

..is a gift to us all.   It fills the world with light.

Let it shine!

  14. That is an absolutely wonderful set of photos:-) And I want those ducks for my collection of strange wood-carved birds!

    1. OH, my! You should do a post sometime on your collection of birds! The bird in the photo was carved, I believe, by the Hittites, which means it’s probably well over two thousand years old. I just loved it too!

Love is really magical – everywhere we gaze our eyes, there’s love! 🙂

    1. Isn’t that true? You could look about and see only the harsh and sad side of life, but the magic is always there too!

Our local botanical garden has a stone sculpture that is similar in emotion to the one in your first shot.

I loved all the shots – you did a great job with selection. I think I like the one of your hubby (boyfriend?) putting his head on your shoulder the best. Can’t beat chipmunks for cute though.

    Nancy

    1. HI Nancy,
Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your comments. That photo is of our friends Beth and Wayne. They are such a great couple, so fun and friendly and sweet together, after near thirty years.

Wonderful! You are so incredibly talented!

    1. You are too kind, Carol! I just kind of start out with a vague idea, and see where it takes me. It is intriguing to me, the integration of photos and words, a new form of storytelling for me.

  18. I loved them all and you’re right love does come in many many forms and whenever and wherever it comes from; it is always a blessing

Aw so sweet. Love the couples you highlighted here. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Kourtney. This was a fun one to put together.

  29. This is such a beautiful post! Thank You! I love the pictures and how each one can relate to someone differently. I loved the last one with the lamp post and the moon. I recently just read about how light is everything and is in everyone from Paramahansa Yogananda’s book, The Autobiography of a Yogi. It’s nice to relate your photography with the things I am reading. Thanks again! I look forward to reading more on your blog!

    1. Hi Sarah,
I appreciate your thoughtful comments. I was on a storytelling tour in Eastern Washington, and we were going to dinner in a little town on the night of the full moon. I noticed that the globed streetlights were a perfect pairing for the rising moon. My wonderful family patiently waited while I found the perfect frame for that beautiful coupling of images! Light and shadow have always caught my attention, and been very important to me in my life, and my art, whether I am taking a picture or telling a story.

Thank you for following my blog. I checked out yours, and was impressed. I look forward to following your writings as well.

  30. I found you through Rawrasaur, and I would not have read this as about equal marriage without that introduction. Perhaps I am not subtle enough, or perhaps it is that I am in favour of all kinds of Love- I liked the lamp and moon best, but I have found squirrels so difficult to photograph, they do not like you paying them too much attention, so that is impressive too. Do carry on influencing subtly.

    1. Hi Clare,
This post was really meant to be all-inclusive, and about love in all of its forms, including friendship, and not excluding same sex couples. The lamp and moon shot is probably my favorite too. I was saving that photo for a special spot, although I wasn’t sure where that might be. As soon as I began a post on couples, I knew it would be my grand finale.
I am very glad that you found your way to this blog, and I really appreciate your thoughtful comments.

  31. I LOVE your themed photo posts like this. Great choices, and always with your lovely, concise captions to tie them all together.

    1. That is such a kind and generous comment, and about the nicest thing you could say! Thank you so much!

  32. rfljenksy says:

Love the take on this.. very awesome…

  33. Kate says:

Just beautiful. You always link everything so eloquently. I love how you’ve shown ‘love’ through relationships between two people or objects, not through symbolism like a heart.

You show something normal for the extraordinary that it is.

    1. Thank you so much, Kate. You are so perceptive, and I really appreciate your sharing your thoughts and your insight.

  34. frizztext says:

Naomi, you’ve created a wonderful gallery describing love! I was amused by the kangaroo!

  35. Thank you, Frizz. That was just a lucky capture. We took the kids to Australia, and turned them loose in a petting zoo. It was sweet the way Bea and this little kangaroo took to each other right away.

I love your words. Today they hit the spot more than ever with the drama we have in UK ! A true friend yes is such a gift. I love the journey your images take the viewer on. There is insight and sense of a worthy destination reached. This post lifts me up today ! (Love the night light next to the moon – like man’s world and the wider cosmos in synch !) Thank you for sharing .. and the ‘through the key hole’ moment looks so joyful and care free. Whoop that!!!!! 🙂 😉
